Exhibition of paintings by Anna Laicāne "Pond and other stories" at Jūrmala Museum

  • 20.March - 21.April
  • Jūrmala Museum
  • Tirgoņu iela 29

In her works in the exhibition "The Pond and Other Stories", painter Anna Laicāne reflects on the feelings and moods of being in nature, which include encountering the unfamiliar, the surprising, tangling in the long stems of water lilies and observing the changing light of natural forms.
Anna Laicāne (1984) says of her collection of works in Pond and Other Stories: "Being in nature - in wet places, by ponds and lakes - evokes memories of reading Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows as a child. A story of adventure and a symbolic journey that offers a sense of fear, sadness and true joy. It involves encountering the unfamiliar, the strange, and there is no other way to experience it than to go forward. The animated film 'Hedgehog in the Mist' has undoubtedly left its mark on world perception. It reflects the journey and the friendships that are forged through hardship. Beauty and letting go once the end is here.
The exhibition runs from 20 March to 21 April. Mon.,Tue. - Closed, Wen., Sun. - 10.00 - 17.00.

Children's exhibition "BikiMETRS"

Children's exhibition "BikiMETRS"

  • 9.February - 31.March
  • Jūrmala Culture centre
  • Jomas iela 35

The exhibition is about the children's book character Bikibuka created by artist Rūta Briede.

BIKIBUK was born in 2012 in the publishing house "Liels un mazs". His mother, the author of the idea, artist Rūta Briede, together with the compiler of the poetry selection Inese Zander, gave him a name, while book designer Artis Briedis, creating the logo for the series, created the real look: Bikibuks is a small horn that reminds of an open book.

The original works on show in the exhibition give the opportunity to match them with the impression created by the book. But BIKIBUK exhibition also offers to live with the process of making a BIKIBUK: the exhibition is like pages from a BIKIBUK diary: you can learn about different "BIKIFACTS", study sketches and photographs, artists' comments, study the techniques used, get to know the prototypes - people and things, listen to songs on your phone using square codes, and hear the lyrics of the poems published in the BIKIBUK. And if you are a small and flexible viewer, you can crawl into some of the illustrations and feel the inside!

The exhibition will be on display until 31 March 2024. Opening hours of Jūrmala Culture centre: Monday-Friday – 13:00-18:00, Saturday – 11:00-18:00, Sunday – Closed.

The exhibition of the painter Valdis Bušs "Sun. Jurmala. Lielupe."

  • 22.July - 20.July
  • Bulduri Exhibition House
  • Muižas iela 6

Valdis Bušs (1924 - 2014), while living in Jūrmala, painted many landscapes of the immediate surroundings. Lielupe, boat piers, yacht regattas, sunset in the bend of the river, snow-covered houses, slender pine trees - these are just some of the scenes depicted in the artist's paintings. In the paintings of Valdis Bušs, we feel both the heat of hot summer and the spelunking of winter, and enjoy a magnificent sunset on the banks of Lielupe.
Painting was a way of life and a necessity for Valdis Bušs. The artist devoted every free moment to his great love - painting. During his long creative life, countless paintings and nature studies were created. Every day, the artist went to paint the landscapes of the immediate surroundings and was waiting for a vacation when he could devote himself only to painting. Not all works are given names, but sometimes a street corner, a characteristic river bay, a boat dock helps to recognize the depicted landscape.
Bulduri Exhibition House working hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10.00-17.00.
