On 1 June, the beginning of summer will be celebrated in Jūrmala with a colourful carnival parade, the longest disco party on Jomas Street, a street café festival and concerts, foam parties and a snack town for the little ones. At the end of the day, Marija Naumova, Labvēlīgais tipis and Citi zēni will perform on the big festive stage at Majori beach, and fireworks will close the festivities.

Barbara Gaile’s intentions show both modesty and ambition. The artist’s choice to paint and draw nothing but fragments of aquatic surfaces casts her latest exhibition in the light of disciplined serialism, where every subsequent image is a surprise in terms of nuance and a repetition in the larger scheme of things which has a single focus – water.

The water’s imagery is straightforward, so Gaile’s latest output can be called aesthetic landscape.

Gaile treats water as a physical and biological matter that yields to idealisation and sets a certain mood. She uses a conceptual approach where water has become (if I may call it so) a screen reflecting the sky, the time of day and its state of light, the wind and an invisible realm of aquatic flora and fauna that gives the water its colour and plasticity. Water and all its atoms become a scenic image. At the same time, every scene is a moment in the viewer’s consciousness.

From the 13th till 16th of June one of the most anticipated sports events in Jurmala city - the European Confederation of Volleyball (CEV) Beach volleyball Nations Cup final - Olympic qualifying tournament will be held in Majori beach.

During four tournament days you will be able to witness 76 beach volleyball matches, with representatives from 12 countries competing both in women's and men's competitions.

The format of the competition is different from the usual beach volleyball tournaments because countries will compete against each other, and each country will be represented by two teams.

All games will have the chance to end with a golden set, making the battles even more exciting. The winners will have the chance to win a ticket to this summer's Olympics in Paris.

From the 13th till 16th of June one of the most anticipated sports events in Jurmala city - the European Confederation of Volleyball (CEV) Beach volleyball Nations Cup final - Olympic qualifying tournament will be held in Majori beach.

During four tournament days you will be able to witness 76 beach volleyball matches, with representatives from 12 countries competing both in women's and men's competitions.

The format of the competition is different from the usual beach volleyball tournaments because countries will compete against each other, and each country will be represented by two teams.

All games will have the chance to end with a golden set, making the battles even more exciting. The winners will have the chance to win a ticket to this summer's Olympics in Paris.

Since 2016, the best Latvian opera singer of all time, mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca, and the Art Forte company have collaborated in the project Elina Garanca and Friends, offering the Dzintari Concert Hall audience delightful concerts with the participation of world stars and promising performers on the cusp of a career. The performances of Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Hibla Gerzmava, Olga Peretyatko, Dmitro Popov, Jonathan Tetelman, Marina Monzo, Eri Nakamura and SeokJong Baek with the Festival Orchestra conducted by Karel Mark Chichon, the artistic director of the project, made a strong impression on the audience. Without a doubt, the concerts of the cycle “Elina Garancha and friends” have become the hallmark of the summer musical season in Jurmala and one of its main decorations.

The soloists who will perform this year alongside Elina Garancha and Karel Mark Chichon on July 8 at the Dzintari Concert Hall will be announced shortly.
