Dance Festival “Jūras bize” | Tallinas Street, Kaugurciems Beach and Jaundubulti Beach

On 29 August, the second dance festival “Jūras bize” will take place in Jūrmala as part of the Kauguri Festival programme. The festival will bring together more than 2,000 dancers from 102 youth, middle-generation and senior dance groups from Latvia, as well as guests from Lithuania and Estonia. The festival will begin at 12.00 noon at the central Kauguri Festival venue on Tallinas Street, where 900 dancers will perform the Latvian folk dance “Es mācēju danci vest”. From 1.00 p.m., the programme will continue on Kaugurciems Beach, where dancers will perform some of the longest Latvian folk dances along the seashore – “Garais dancis”, “Pankūkdancis”, “Dvieļu deja” and “Gatves deja”; the concert “Jūras mātei” will feature performances by individual dance groups. The festival scenography will be shaped by the seaside landscape itself – the sandy beach, the sea and its changing character – while a sand braid created by the participants will become a shared visual element. The festival will conclude at 8.10 p.m. on Jaundubulti Beach with the White Swim, where dancers dressed in white linen shirts will enter the sea together.

Programme on Kaugurciems Beach: 1.00–1.40 p.m. – creation of a sand braid on the beach and measuring of the longest hair braid; 4.00–4.20 p.m. – performance of the longest folk dances; 4.30–5.40 p.m. – dance group concert “Jūras mātei”. Programme on Jaundubulti Beach: 8.10 p.m. – White Swim.

Photography and filming will take place during the event. The materials may be used for publicity purposes. Visitors travelling by car to the festival finale on Jaundubulti Beach should note that Jaundubulti is located within Jūrmala’s special regime zone. The entry fee is EUR 5. The pass can be purchased at visitjurmala.lv, from entry pass machines and via mobile apps.
