Opening of the contemporary photography and poetry exhibition “Testimonies of Values: Latvian and Chinese Intercultural Contemporary Photography Exhibition” | Central Library
The exhibition “Testimonies of Values” brings together works by three young Latvian and three young Chinese photographers, creating a visual dialogue about cultural heritage, memories, people and values.
The exhibition features documentary photography, objects and people, while the visual narratives are complemented by poetry in Latvian and English by Agnese Gabriela Celma, also known as Gabrielle Ciméri. The project highlights the interaction between different cultural experiences and the values they share.
“Testimonies of Values” invites viewers not only to notice the differences between Latvian and Chinese cultural experiences, but also to discover what they have in common. Memories, family and cultural heritage, rituals, relationships with places and people — these themes may take very different visual forms, yet they often raise similar questions about what is meaningful to people, what they preserve and what they pass on to future generations.
The visual concept of the exhibition is created by six contemporary photographers:
Latvian cultural space: Emīlija Skrupska, Natālija Jēkabsone and Ieva Romaško
Chinese cultural perspectives: Xiyu Huang (黄稀榆), Cao Hui (曹慧) and Guo Pupu (郭普)
The opening programme will also include a traditional tea ceremony in the Gongfu cha style, led by Anna Marcinkēviča, a specialist in Chinese teas and Latvian medicinal herbs.
The exhibition will be on view from 3 to 29 October.
Admission free.
